Lower Herdswick lies 2 miles from the village of Ogbourne St George to the north of Marlborough, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village has a church, primary school, a pub, The Park Hotel, The Silks on the Downs (thriving Pub/Restaurant) lies nearby in the neighbouring village of Ogbourne St Andrew. The market town of Marlborough, 5 miles, provides a wide range of shopping and leisure facilities whilst the larger regional centre of Swindon. 6 miles,  offers a wider range of services.

 There is easy access to Junctions 15 of the M4 motorway (80 miles to central London, 74 miles to Heathrow Airport), and to the wider main road network. There are regular trains from Swindon, Great Bedwyn, Hungerford and Pewsey to London Paddington.
